Obituary for Victor Gene Baker

Victor Gene Baker
Mulvane - Baker, Victor Gene
Victor Gene Baker, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Mulvane, Kansas passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the age of 83. Victor was born on the family farm on January 13, 1936 in Wells, Kansas and spent his early years on the family farm with his parents and 10 siblings. The Baker family moved from Wells to Wichita Kansas during the 1940’s and Victor graduated from East High School in 1954. After graduation, Victor found work in the machine shop and helped his Father build houses and demolish buildings. Victor joined the U.S. Marine Corps and after serving for 3 years returned home and met the Love of his life, Kay Vivian (Barrington) Baker. They quickly married on March 12, 1960 and enjoyed almost 59 years of marriage. During the early years of his marriage, Victor built upon the electrical training he received as a Marine and attended Schweitzer Technical School while working fulltime at the family machine shop, Baker Machine. After graduation, Victor was touted by instructors as the “best tech to come down the pike in years”, which led to his dream job at Boeing Defense as a radar technician, from which he retired in 1995. Victor always possessed an ingenious and inventive nature and spent his entire life building; from airplanes that he “flew” off the family barn as a child, a home for his ever-growing family, to a post-hole digging machine for his son’s fence business. It was not one event that defined Victor as an amazing father and husband but a lifetime of small things that made his wife and family know beyond any doubt how much they were loved. Victor is survived by his wife Kay; 5 siblings, Jud, Richard, Jerry, Betty and Collie; his 6 children Vicky, Barry, Penny, Scotty, Stacy, and Wendy along with their spouses; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Memorial Service: 11:00 am, Friday, January 25, 2019 at Smith Mortuary, Derby 1415 North Rock Road Derby, Kansas 67037.
